The difference between entertainment professional audio amplifier and home amplifier

Friends who want to love audio have seen the working principle diagrams of professional power amplifiers and home power amplifiers, but after reading them, they feel that there is no obvious difference between professional power amplifiers and home power amplifiers. From a functional point of view, both are used to drive speakers to play. In terms of performance indicators, the basic performance indicators of professional power amplifiers and general household power amplifiers are also similar.

A “professional power amplifier” is different from a “home power amplifier” because of the special requirements of its application (the same differences include playback equipment, front-end systems, speakers, etc.), but many audio industry practitioners do not really understand the “professional power amplifier” “In the end, it is fundamentally different from professional power amplifiers for home or entertainment.

The difference in function settings: professional power amplifiers are often used with front-end equipment such as mixers to work, so they are mostly pure post-amplifiers. The settings of professional amplifiers are very simple, often there are only power switches and output level adjustment potentiometers (or step attenuators) on the panel. And because of the actual needs of professional power amplifiers, it can often work in a two-channel stereo state, or become a mono amplifier after being “bridged”, so professional power amplifiers are mostly equipped with a “bridge” switch. For household power amplifiers, many models are “combined” amplifiers with pre-amplifiers. This combined amplifier has more efficacies, often with audio source selection, boring control, and multiple audio input interfaces.

The difference in working environment: The most basic requirement of professional power amplifiers is to work for a long time and continuously under high power conditions. Professional power amplifiers are often used for sound reinforcement in large areas and used to drive professional speaker systems, so they are required to be driven. Strong force, sufficient output power, clear sound, and sufficient strength.

The actual workload of the output stage of the home power amplifier is very light. Household power amplifiers are generally used for home playback, and are characterized by delicate and soft sound quality, more refined and beautiful appearance, not high playback sound pressure level, and low power.

The difference in the material configuration of the two: the high-power devices of professional power amplifiers often choose specifications with maximum current and withstand voltage higher than the rated value, and the radiator of the output stage tends to adopt large exposed radiator or active heat dissipation. In order to facilitate heat dissipation and ensure low temperature rise during long-term work.

Professional power amplifiers with a rated output power of 500W often reach a critical state close to “full power” in actual use. The actual work load is heavier, so the output stage generates a lot of heat, and a larger radiator is needed to ensure Good heat dissipation.
